ARC Review: Dashing through the Snow by M. Leighton

dashing-coverAmazon/B&N/iBooks/Kobo/Goodreads

synA dash of perfect for the holidays!

Dilyn Hart hates Christmas, so when her boss (and ex-boyfriend) hands her an assignment to interview champion snowboarder and gorgeous playboy extraordinaire, Dash Grainger, on Christmas Eve, she takes it. There are several things she doesn’t plan for—a surly driver, a chalet in the middle of nowhere, a freak snowstorm—but the biggest surprise of all is Dash himself.

Dash Grainger lives for the high, and so far in his twenty-six years, he’s never met anyone or anything he loves more. Nothing has ever thrilled him as much as slick snow, cold air, and breakneck speed.

Until he meets Dilyn.

But one perfect night doesn’t mean clear, blue skies the next day. Some storms can’t be weathered.

Christmas might just be one of them.

Dashing through the Snow is the perfect dash of seduction and warmth you need on  a snowy night. It’s the marshmallows in your hot chocolate, the bourbon in your cider, the crackling heat of a roaring fire. Dash and Dilyn are Christmas magic at its finest.

M. Leighton never ceases to impress me with her characters. They’re always, always bursting with life and complexity that make you fall hard for them. Dashing through the Snow is fairly short. Less than 200 pages, but it’s packed with story. Somehow, I don’t know how she does this, but the smallest of details stick and satisfy.

Dilyn has a tragic past. The kind that lurks under the skin and makes you see everything differently. Her apprehension, her sadness, it’s heartbreaking because she’s got everything going for her. She’s feisty, loud, sarcastic, independent, has a great job, and is gorgeous to boot. But she’s terrified to risk her heart and that backs her into a corner of unsatisfying relationships. Dilyn has some of the most outrageous, laugh out loud lines. She’s blunt, crass, and says exactly what’s on her mind and doesn’t apologize for it. Dilyn is a refreshing, whirlwind of a woman whose presence is exhilarating. She’ll fill you right up with light, laughter, and energy.

Dash is…mouthwatering? Is that a thing? If not, it should be. He’s sexy, beyond sexy. He’s magnetic, compelling, erotic, sensual. I mean the guy is just walking, talking sex-irresistable. On top of that he’s a romantic, with a big heart, and so compassionate. He’s basically girl kryptonite in a very, very hot package. Some of the things he says, with such conviction, sigh. You’ll lose track of how many times you swoon, trust me.

Chemistry. Sweet mother of god that s’more scene. That tension. The anticipation. Off the charts. Past the charts. What are charts? The air ignites around them. Every interaction from the initial time they see each other to the last, it’s fire and want and a little angst.

The story itself is a combination of playful, sinful, serious, and raw heat. You won’t be bored for a second. The pacing is fantastic.

Some scenes are agony. You’ll hold your heart in your hand and hope that Dilyn and Dash get their happy ever after when everything seems to be falling apart.

Four beautiful days. Three steamy nights. One breathtaking love.

Levi Michaelson.

He wanted four dates. Four opportunities to prove I could trust him. Four chances to change my mind about him.

I agreed.

Probably not my smartest decision. He was everything I knew to avoid—gorgeous, charming, sexy as hell—but I couldn’t help myself. When he touched me the whole world disappeared. I should’ve known I could lose myself to him, that he could be the one man to destroy me.

I guess it’s true what they say—some things are too good to be true. And Levi Michaelson might just be one of them.

Levi’s Blue is a mesmerizing and vibrant love story. Full of bold and beautiful descriptions, sensory details, and scorching chemistry, you’ll fall hard for Levi and Evie.

I hardly know where to begin with this review. There’s so much I want to say, but let me start with what makes this story so special: the voice. Evie is a strong, courageous woman who hasn’t let her disability and the tragic circumstances behind her accident break her. Instead of wallowing in her pain, she found herself. Her loss became her saving grace. She embraced her blindness with her whole heart and learned to listen to all of her senses. Evie is a little sassy, flirty, and has such warmth within her that she glows right off the page. There are scenes where she’s teaching art to others with disabilities and it’s incredibly uplifting. She makes them feel hope and that nothing can stop them, despite what they’ve been through. Seeing how the children respond to her will make your heart happy. Get ready for big smiles. That being said, Evie doesn’t take abuse from anyone. She hates pity, but actively tries to understand how awkward it can be to find the words. I loved that about her, how conscious she was of everyone’s feelings-she focused on how to make others happy, even above herself.

The sensory details are out of this world. The way colors and images and associations are made between what she remembers and what she can only imagine is fantastic. I wish I could see these paintings. The combination of smell and texture and sound all combine to give Evie this almost otherworldly perception, she sees things more clearly without her sight than those around her. AND when Levi describes things for Evie. Your heart will EXPLODE. That man.

Levi is smitten. That’s the best word for the single-minded way he absolutely adores, admires, and worships Evie. Everything she does is magical to him. Sometimes he just watches her and the emotions swell. Fluttery heart and palms sweating adorable.

Levi is sexy. He almost growls his words and it’s pure, primal fire, the want. He’s attentive, hyper aware of Evie, and is constantly touching her. The chemistry just builds and builds. It’s inevitable. The dates are just…jaw dropping, so so perfect and considerate. He wants to wow her as much as she wows him.

Cherelyn is a best friend everyone should want to have. She’s feisty, she speaks her mind, and loves Evie so much. Her accent, her big personality leaps off the pages and make you want to hang out with her.

The story goes by SO FAST. It takes place over a short period of time, some parts feel a little rushed, but the story is powerful and builds.

The catty, jealous female as antagonist was expected, but even I was shocked by some of the stuff she said. Jeez.

Those sex scenes. It takes a bit, but so worth the wait. Grab a glass of wine and get ready to fan yourself, because it’s hot, to put it mildly.

That ending. Swoon times infinity. Oh my cuteness.

ARC Review: The Empty Jar by M. Leighton

THE EMPTY JAR IS LIVE! And what better way to celebrate Mother’s Day than with a book like this, a poignant tale about the power of love. This is what readers are saying about the new story from M. Leighton:

“The ultimate love story.”

“It is a masterpiece.”

“Heartbreaking. Hopeful. Brilliant.”

“Hands down the best book I have ever read.”

“If I could only tell you to read one book this year, it would be this book.”

“After today, life as I know it will be ‘AEJ’, after The Empty Jar. I will not be the same.”

synA NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR

This book is not a romantic fairy tale. Yet, it’s the most romantic story I’ve ever told. It’s a journey of pain and loss, of hope and happiness. It’s both achingly tragic and exquisitely beautiful. It’s a love story. A true love story about real love. The kind that sees you through the night and holds you when you cry. The kind that won’t give up and never lets go. The kind we all dream about and few find. But it’s real. I promise you, it’s real. I’ve seen this kind of love, and I’ve seen this kind of heartbreak. I got to see it up close and personal, and quite honestly, I will never be the same. I hope it changes you as much as it changed me.

Three months touring Europe.

Romantic. Dazzling. Unforgettable.

The trip of a lifetime.

But some lifetimes are shorter…

We couldn’t have known it would work out this way. No one could. No one could’ve guessed that something so beautiful could be so tragic.

But it is tragic.

Yet so, so beautiful.

That’s what sacrifice is—beauty and tragedy.

It’s pain and suffering for something or someone you love.

And this is the ultimate sacrifice.

One stunning act of true love.

This is our story.

Our true love story.

***I received this ARC as a gift in exchange for an honest review via the author

I honestly don’t even know where to begin, I’m still reeling from this story and I don’t think I’ll ever fully recover.

The Empty Jar is an incredibly moving story of the most profound kind of love, one that transcends life and radiates from Heaven. The kind that carries on through generations on happy memories and heart-warming traditions. The Empty Jar will move you. Not only to tears, so have your tissues ready, but with force you to open your eyes and hold on to the love around you, love that is so often taken for granted in this busy, hungry world.

Nothing in this life, or the next, eclipses a mother’s love. There’s not a single sacrifice or burden too powerful to crush the strength of these women. So much love and affection can fit inside a mother’s heart that it is all at once astounding and magical-the Mary Poppin’s bag of wonder that keeps pulling out more and more to give to their children.

From the first few pages, the emotions are beautifully raw and aching with mourning, but also a love so pronounced that it is impossible not to swoon and crave the same. This story is filled with bittersweet moments of memory and life, one so Mason jar full that not matter how short the duration, every single second is worth the agony. Some scenes are hard, so so hard to read through. The cruel reality that is cancer is on full display and it is brutally honest. There are many scenes that will stun and startle you, things that you’d never in a million things think about, but when they happen, your heart will feel it sharply, painfully. One of these for me in this heartbreaking scene near the end where Lena looks in the mirror. Oh my, I’m weeping just thinking about it. What stunning and brilliant writing.

Faith. Lena, who has known the biting reality of cancer and the loss and suffering that comes with it, lost her faith a long time ago. When God tested her, she felt as though nothing would ever make her whole again and her world was falling apart. Sometimes it’s hard, beyond difficult to keep faith when you experience so much pain, so much tragedy. Throughout the story, Lena has a complex relationship with God. She has given up hope because she doesn’t have reason to have it, or so she thinks. As Lena grapples with her choices, it is rekindled faith, found in one of the most holy of places, that gives her the foundation needed to carry on. THIS is something that so many can not only identify, but will help those who too are feeling lost and alone, when everything else isn’t enough.

Lena and Nate are soul mates. There is absolutely no doubt. The alternating POVs read like a love letter between the two. The way they both try to have courage, to be strong for each other, to not let the other see how badly they’re hurting when the impending loss is enough to break them and tear out their hearts. Every time Nate looks at Lena, it’s like falling in love all over again. Each day he grows more in love and there’s nothing that can beat that, even death. The love they feel for each other is almost divine, something that is both Kismet and ordained. The glow flows off the pages and will cushion your heart in a cocoon of warmth and happiness.

Take my advice: read the notes, read the acknowledgments. Every piece of this story is heart-felt and an open letter to her readers. Together, it adds a more personal note to the story, one that makes it even more incredible.

Cover Reveal: The Empty Jar by M. Leighton

Today is cover reveal day for M. Leighton’s upcoming new release entitled The Empty Jar. She wanted to say a little something about the cover before she revealed it and the description, so here she is:

First of all, a huge, heartfelt thank you to every single one of you amazing women who is helping me reveal this cover today.

I appreciate everything you do for me, for authors and readers in general and for this community.

Secondly…

OMG

IT’S FINALLY TIME FOR THE EMPTY JAR COVER REVEAL!!!

I feel like I’ve been waiting AGES to share this with you!

This cover… GAH! Y’all, it took me forEVER to get it just right. There was a certain “feel” that I wanted to achieve with it and I wasn’t happy until I felt that it jumped right out when I looked at it. I wanted the cover to speak of the book, wanted it to show the highs and lows, the sweet and the poignant, the depth of it, if you will. And finally…finally, I feel like it does:)

You might not realize just how much NOW, but once you read it, you’ll be like, “Yeah. It’s perfect for this book!”

When I got the paperback proof in the other day, I held it in my hands and I just stared at it. Not only is this story extremely special to me, but this is probably my favorite cover of all my books. Ever.

When I look at it, I see so much more than just a picture. I see all the things that I find in life as well as what I put into the story that is The Empty Jar. It’s a blend of happy pinks and brooding blues. It’s light and it’s dark. There are highs and there are lows. There is morning and there is night. But if you notice the sky on this cover, there are little flickers of brightness in the bodies of the lightning bugs. Life is that way, too. Even in the darkest part of the night, there is a spark of hope.

There is beauty. There is the romantic glow of a full moon, the silvery face of your mate, the delicate twinkle of fireflies. It’s all there if we look hard enough—that balance of beauty and tragedy.

And love.

Always love.

Below is a little more about the book. It’s hard to tell you much without spoiling anything, but I think you can get a feel for it. It’s such a special story. So raw, so real.

I honestly can’t wait for y’all to read it! I hope you love IT and the cover as much as I do:)
