Author Spotlight & Giveaway: Stacey Rourke

Meet Stacey Rourke! She is an award winning, best-selling author, yet her quirky writing style and personality has her better known for her irrational fear of garden gnomes and her insistence that pretty shoes actually call out to her as she shops. That said, if you like books with a heap of action, a swirl of suspense, a dash of romance, and a slathering of snappy one-liners, Stacey’s books might be the right recipe for you! Without further ado, let’s explore the works of this twistedly, fun ginger!

In the literary world, Stacey is probably best known for her Legends Saga. This suspenseful literary adventure dares to ask the question; what if the best fiction had dark roots of truth? It kicks off with Crane, a modern day spin on the Legends of Sleepy Hollow. Things delve into the macabre in Raven, book 2, where the works of Edgar Allen Poe are weaved together into an intricate tapestry. The third book, Steam, combines the writings of HG Wells and Nathaniel Hawthorne into a backstory filled with witchcraft and time travel.
Spiral into madness with this series today!

Raven: Amazon/B&N

In between writing the Legends Saga, Stacey admits to needing a “mental health” break from the dark and maniacal.  Her pallet cleanser came in the form of the light-hearted romantic comedy, Adapted for Film.
Set in Hollywood, we travel along with International Best-Selling Author, Aubrey Evans, as her blockbuster book is made into a major motion picture. But when she and the director begin butting heads over how to bring the book to life the studio takes drastic measures to save the flailing film. Will Aubrey find her happy ending in the City of Angels? Or will the credits roll on all she has worked for?
Stacey entered the literary world with this YA fantasy series filled with shapeshifters, dragons, pirates, demons, and the horrifying image of grandma in a leopard print bikini! Yikes. The lives of three siblings are turned upside down when they suddenly find themselves linked to the mystical creature known as the Gryphon; oldest brother, Gabe, takes the form of a lion, the youngest of the trio, Kendall, grows the wings of an eagle, and middle child, Celeste, becomes his Conduit—the Celtic warrior fated to save us all.
Together, they must battle the forces of darkness, all while getting on each other’s last nerve.

Cover Reveal: Love in Neverland-Heather C. Myers

Genre: Fantasy Romance Young Adult/retelling of Peter Pan
Expected Release Date: January 25th, 2016
synLove in Neverland is as hard to capture as fairy dust. Luckily, Magdalena Trainor has no need for either. Love has never been at the forefront of her mind. Her sole focus is to keep an eye on Captain Nicholas Grey while James Hook – the only person Magda trusts – has Remy Cutler in his clutches. She doesn’t expect the task to be difficult – Nicholas Grey may have brawn but doesn’t appear to have any brain – except he turns out to be more than she bargained for. And not in a bad way.

For Remy Cutler, love in Neverland is impossible and uimportant.  All she wants to do is get back home, back to her parents, her easy life, and even her undesirable arranged marriage with a man she has no passion for.  James Hook may be beautiful, but he’s cold, and while he does not raise a hand to her, Remy is constantly left alone, isolated from everyone save for her handmaiden.  Rey still has no idea why she’s so special, and James isn’t sharing what he’s planning to do with her either.  There’s a threat looming over her head, and James Hook plays two parts: captor and protector.  With no one left to trust but him, she puts her life – and heart – in his hand – and hook.
authHeather C. Myers

Full disclosure: I am an acquired taste. I’m a typical blonde Orange County suburbanite who says ‘like’ more than necessary, laughs loud and probably obnoxiously, and loves to dance in the rain. I’m a 26 year old college graduate with more than a few tricks up my sleeve, and I also happen to be a pretty big Ducks fan. Oh, and I’m a writer. Like, for real.

I recently signed with Anchor Group Publishing, which will see two of my series being published this year. I’ve self-published over 15 books, with more on the way, so I’m familiar with both a hybrid-traditional publishing method as well as self-publishing.

I don’t speak in third person (normally) nor do I wear glasses (except when I’m feeling particularly mischievous). I’m lucky to have found my soul mate at the ripe old age of 22, even though he frustrates me on purpose to get a reaction out of me. We live near Disneyland, have two rambunctious female puppies, and have a beautiful baby girl. He has two amazing boys, and has gotten me hooked on Smallville, watching soccer (okay, okay FOOTBALL – FC Barcelona, baby!), and Cancun Juice.

Release Day Blitz, Review, and Giveaway-The Barrier Between-Stacey Marie Brown

Goodreads/Amazon

cooltext1889161239 copyZoey’s life has taken a dramatic turn. Only a few months ago she was a Collector working for the a secret part of the government called the Department of Molecular Genetics (DMG), tracking and collecting fae. Now all that is gone—Daniel murdered by a fae, and Lexi killed when the Seattle area is devastated by a powerful, magical electrical storm. Zoey herself is altered by her association with the Wanderer, Ryker, in life-changing way.

Zoey discovered she was an experiment from the very company she worked for. She could die at any moment of a threatening defect—taking Ryker’s magic with her.

In a race against time, Ryker and Zoey set out to find a way to transfer his powers back before it’s too late. Their journey takes them to the rainforests of South America, dealing with those who are after something Ryker possesses and who will stop at nothing to obtain it for themselves.

When I read City in Embers, I was wowed. I LOVED that book but this one is even better. Sometimes the sequel falls flat, no worries, just as fresh and action-packed as the first book with an added layer of carnal lust.

PROS:

  • An adrenaline rush from the first page to the last, The Barrier Between will consistently keep your heart racing. From the thrill of the Fight Club-esque arena to the fae infested wild of South America, every page is a new adventure.
  • Sprig is hilarious. His antics are adorable. A spritely, spirited little fae monkey with an obsession with honey and all things sugar. His comments are spot on and sarcastic, bringing tons of light and laughter to a terrible situation. From his love of reality tv to his narcolepsy, every scene is filled with joy. Plus, his curses are the cutest.
  • The beloved Viking. I didn’t think it was possible for him to get any hotter but I was WAY wrong. Ryker is sex and sin, lust and angst, desire and animalistic intentions all rolled in one very sexy package. Gruff, angry, and with a tendency towards violence, Ryker is a terrifying adversary, his whole image is menacing between his huge physique and BA ax, there’s nothing this man can’t slaughter. What’s more, when Ryder is vulnerable it’s deliciously sinful. His compassion, his battle scars, his dark past all make him a complex, deep, and devoted man. Some scenes he’s sweet and kind and others, holy hotness, get ready to fan yourself.
  • Zoey is changed. She’s not the hardened criminal she once was, there’s a softness to her that’s very appealing especially accompanied by her rage induced tenacity in battle. Fiesty, fierce, and a killer fighter with her fists, Zoey’s alter ego, the Avenging Angel has come a long way. Above everything, Zoey is a survivor. She’ll fight until the last making her incredibly brave but what is even more admirable is her decision to open her heart to love again. Dreamy sigh.
  • OMG the chemistry. The sexual tension and frustration is almost overwhelming it’s so strong. Every encounter is a heady mix of fury and attraction, they want to punch each other as often as they want to rip their clothes off.
  • New characters were a pleasant surprise. Heading back to the fight ring to meet AB, tossing in a greater look at the illusive Amara, and introducing Cryogen-that man, think Jack Sparrow.

CONS:

  • Some dramatic scenes were almost too easily resolved. Just when things were starting to get dire, some twist of fate pulled them of the danger zone. I.E. the Avenging Angel fight.

cooltext1889161239 copyZoey Daniels has been tossed from foster home to foster home, where she grows up fast and tough. When she is placed in her “last-chance” home, she finds a reason to stay and turn her life around: her foster sister, Lexie, who is paralyzed and confined to a wheelchair. Zoey will do anything to keep her safe.

After high school, Zoey is hired by a special government agency, the Department of Molecular Genetics (DMG), where she meets the other reason to remain: Daniel, her co-worker. The man she loves.

But there is something unique about Zoey. She can see fae. Because of this, the DMG hires her to work as a Collector: catching, researching, testing, and using the fae to save human lives. The work never registers on her sympathy radar. She was raised to think of fae as beasts that feed on humans and want to destroy them.

When devastation hits Seattle, Zoey’s whole world is turned upside down. The electric storm connects her to a ruthless fae, a Wanderer named Ryker, whose dealings expose them to even more trouble and danger. They embark on a journey, running and hiding from both the government and fae, both of which threaten their lives and those they love.

ARC Review: The Witch Hunter-Virginia Boecker

18190208Goodreads/Amazon/B&N/iBooks

Release Date: June 2, 2015

cooltext1889161239 copyThe magic and suspense of Graceling meet the political intrigue and unrest of Game of Thrones in this riveting fantasy debut.

Your greatest enemy isn’t what you fight, but what you fear.

Elizabeth Grey is one of the king’s best witch hunters, devoted to rooting out witchcraft and doling out justice. But when she’s accused of being a witch herself, Elizabeth is arrested and sentenced to burn at the stake.

Salvation comes from a man she thought was her enemy. Nicholas Perevil, the most powerful and dangerous wizard in the kingdom, offers her a deal: he will save her from execution if she can break the deadly curse that’s been laid upon him.

But Nicholas and his followers know nothing of Elizabeth’s witch hunting past–if they find out, the stake will be the least of her worries. And as she’s thrust into the magical world of witches, ghosts, pirates, and one all-too-handsome healer, Elizabeth is forced to redefine her ideas of right and wrong, of friends and enemies, and of love and hate.

Virginia Boecker weaves a riveting tale of magic, betrayal, and sacrifice in this unforgettable fantasy debut.

***I received this eARC as a gift in exchange for an honest review via NetGalley & Little Brown Books for Young Readers.

You know that magical, exhilarating feeling when you find a book that you’ve been searching for, that giddy happiness that finally, FINALLY, someone answered your bookish prayers? The Witch Hunter was that book for me. Full of quirky characters, passion, magic, and twists that have you speeding through pages, The Witch Hunter is a must read.

PROS:

  • The story from the very first page is gripping and borderline addictive, you want to know more and as the twists, turns, and danger mounts, the nail-biting certainty of an unhappy ending swells. Nothing is predictable, each turn is a surprise and I genuinely feared for Elizabeth. In a couple of pages, I was so invested in Elizabeth that anything that happened to her felt like a personal attack.
  • The combination of what reads like historical fiction, Arthurian legend, and good old-fashioned fantasy takes you to another world. The witch burnings, the torture methods, everything is graphic and boldly written. Every ounce of carnage and pain is there full-frontal and piercing. I got lost in this world of magical creatures, BA hunters, and sadistic politicians. You’ll never feel comfortable trusting the majority of the characters because everything is uncertain and things can go from bad to worse with little notice. This is the kind of story that keeps you on your toes.
  • Elizabeth is a relatable heroine. She never claims to be invincible. She has real fears that are heartbreaking and potent. She’s terrified of ending up alone and after the trauma of her childhood it’s like a punch straight to the heart. Elizabeth is a fiery little thing when she’s riled up. She’s bold, courageous and believes what she does is righteous. Sometimes she’s puzzled and conflicted, she struggles to sort through her feelings and her guilt is intense. Crafty, determined, and wily, Elizabeth is the kind of heroine I can get behind.
  • Secondary characters are charming, hilarious, and just as loveable as Elizabeth. Fifer is saucy, honest, the kind of blunt that is like a slap in the face but comical at the same time. Fifer’s love interest is complex, her short-fuse makes for constant entertainment and more than anything, her heart will win you over. Schuyler is a flirty, playful revenant. He’s witty, sexy, and dangerous, everything you’d want in a paranormal sidekick. George is a drunken fool but insanely lovable. John. Holy hotness. Calculating, practical, intense, not only is he gorgeous but his compassion makes him 10x more attractive.
  • John and Elizabeth are adorable. They’re shy and uncertain. It’s uplifting and wonderful watching their relationship grow.
  • Blackwell is a wicked mastermind. The sheer level of plotting and evil plans is intricate and it’s hard to guess the endgame.
  • I loved the inclusion of several paranormal creatures, folk beliefs, herb uses, and reference to the Green Knight.

CONS:

  • Elizabeth’s attraction to Caleb was more telling than showing. The emotional build up wasn’t there. While Caleb and Elizabeth do have a past and those memories are revisited throughout the story, the chemistry is absent, despite what Elizabeth maintains. The final moments with Caleb were a bit of a letdown. I expected more emotion, more tears.
