“Fire. Kissing Tara Rowan was like touching living fire, magical fire that heated his body but didn’t burn. Magical fire that warned him, filled him, made him want more. More…He tilted his head, deepening the kiss. Her response was all he could have wished for. She parted her lips and he took immediate advantage to taste her.”

Two words. Space Pirates. Riding the Odds is an intergalactic enterprise filled with startling twists, action, romance and comedy. A stunning mix of science fiction and paranormal, Riding the Odds is Firefly meets Star Wars.

I read this over a year ago and still feel a rush when I think about this story.

The chemistry is explosive, out of this solar system, fiery heat that is as magnetic as it is sexy. It’s slow to start and takes some building, but worth it.

Tara is a strong, independent woman who does what she wants, when she wants, and takes risks that most would think are crazy but for her, it works. Tara is on a mission. She’s going to do everything in her power to make it on her own, to escape her past, and live a general badass existence. She radiates sex appeal and charisma. Her snark, her prowess, she’s like a mesmerizing lioness on the prowl. ❤ Tara has a past, a back story that is as intriguing, if not more so, than the central plot. The secrets, the drama, the butt-kicking. Yes, yes, yes.

Zie. Oh my Zie is adorable and sweet and innocent and the interactions between Zie and Tara are lovable, full of laughs, and oh so endearing. You won’t be able to help yourself from falling hard for this cute character.

The plot is action-packed, complex, and will keep you entertained, that’s a promise.

Trace HOLY KNIGHT Monroe. Just wow. Loyal, determined, full of erotic thoughts and he too has some insane secrets. Some of his lines. Get ready to laugh at the banter.

Some of the world building was super slow to get into and it may take a bit for the story to hook you, but when it does, you won’t be able to stop. Be patient, give it a chance to catch you.

So who am I? Well, I’m the crazy girl with an imagination that never shuts up. I LOVE scary movies. My friends laugh at me when I scare myself watching them and tells me to stop watching them, but who doesn’t love to get scared? I grew up in a small town nestled in the southern mountains of West Virginia where I spent days roaming around in the woods, climbing trees, and causing general mayhem. Nights I would stay up reading Nancy Drew by flashlight under the covers until my parents yelled at me to go to sleep.

Growing up in a small town, I learned a lot of values and morals, I also learned parents have spies everywhere and there’s always someone to tell your mama you were seen kissing a particular boy on a particular day just a little too long. So when you get grounded, what is there left to do? Read! My Aunt Jo gave me my first real romance novel. It was a romance titled Lord Margrave’s Deception.” I remember it fondly. But I also learned I had a deep and abiding love of mysteries and anything paranormal. As I grew up, I started to write just that and would entertain my friends with stories featuring them as main characters.

Now, I live Huntersville, NC and a small town in WV where I entertain my niece and nephew and watch the cats get teased by the birds and laugh myself silly when they swoop down and then dive back up just out of reach. The cats start yelling something fierce…lol.

I love books, I love writing books, and I love entertaining people with my silly stories.

Sienna Diaz is everyone’s favorite “fat” funny lady. The movie studio executives can’t explain it, but her films are out-grossing all the fit and trim headliners and Hollywood’s most beautiful elite. The simple truth is, everyone loves plus-sized Sienna.

But she has a problem, she can’t read maps and her sense of direction is almost as bad as her comedic timing is stellar. Therefore, when Sienna’s latest starring role takes her to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park she finds herself continually lost while trying to navigate the backroads of Green Valley, Tennessee. Much to her consternation, Sienna’s most frequent savior is a ridiculously handsome, charming, and cheeky Park Ranger by the name of Jethro Winston.

Sienna is accustomed to high levels of man-handsome, so it’s not Jethro’s chiseled features or his perfect physique that make Sienna stutter. It’s his southern charm. And gentlemanly manners. And habit of looking at her too long and too often.

Sienna has successfully navigated the labyrinth of Hollywood heartthrobs. But can she traverse the tenuous trails of Tennessee without losing her head? Or worse, her heart?

ARC Review: The Empty Jar by M. Leighton

THE EMPTY JAR IS LIVE! And what better way to celebrate Mother’s Day than with a book like this, a poignant tale about the power of love. This is what readers are saying about the new story from M. Leighton:

“The ultimate love story.”

“It is a masterpiece.”

“Heartbreaking. Hopeful. Brilliant.”

“Hands down the best book I have ever read.”

“If I could only tell you to read one book this year, it would be this book.”

“After today, life as I know it will be ‘AEJ’, after The Empty Jar. I will not be the same.”

synA NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR

This book is not a romantic fairy tale. Yet, it’s the most romantic story I’ve ever told. It’s a journey of pain and loss, of hope and happiness. It’s both achingly tragic and exquisitely beautiful. It’s a love story. A true love story about real love. The kind that sees you through the night and holds you when you cry. The kind that won’t give up and never lets go. The kind we all dream about and few find. But it’s real. I promise you, it’s real. I’ve seen this kind of love, and I’ve seen this kind of heartbreak. I got to see it up close and personal, and quite honestly, I will never be the same. I hope it changes you as much as it changed me.

Three months touring Europe.

Romantic. Dazzling. Unforgettable.

The trip of a lifetime.

But some lifetimes are shorter…

We couldn’t have known it would work out this way. No one could. No one could’ve guessed that something so beautiful could be so tragic.

But it is tragic.

Yet so, so beautiful.

That’s what sacrifice is—beauty and tragedy.

It’s pain and suffering for something or someone you love.

And this is the ultimate sacrifice.

One stunning act of true love.

This is our story.

Our true love story.

***I received this ARC as a gift in exchange for an honest review via the author

I honestly don’t even know where to begin, I’m still reeling from this story and I don’t think I’ll ever fully recover.

The Empty Jar is an incredibly moving story of the most profound kind of love, one that transcends life and radiates from Heaven. The kind that carries on through generations on happy memories and heart-warming traditions. The Empty Jar will move you. Not only to tears, so have your tissues ready, but with force you to open your eyes and hold on to the love around you, love that is so often taken for granted in this busy, hungry world.

Nothing in this life, or the next, eclipses a mother’s love. There’s not a single sacrifice or burden too powerful to crush the strength of these women. So much love and affection can fit inside a mother’s heart that it is all at once astounding and magical-the Mary Poppin’s bag of wonder that keeps pulling out more and more to give to their children.

From the first few pages, the emotions are beautifully raw and aching with mourning, but also a love so pronounced that it is impossible not to swoon and crave the same. This story is filled with bittersweet moments of memory and life, one so Mason jar full that not matter how short the duration, every single second is worth the agony. Some scenes are hard, so so hard to read through. The cruel reality that is cancer is on full display and it is brutally honest. There are many scenes that will stun and startle you, things that you’d never in a million things think about, but when they happen, your heart will feel it sharply, painfully. One of these for me in this heartbreaking scene near the end where Lena looks in the mirror. Oh my, I’m weeping just thinking about it. What stunning and brilliant writing.

Faith. Lena, who has known the biting reality of cancer and the loss and suffering that comes with it, lost her faith a long time ago. When God tested her, she felt as though nothing would ever make her whole again and her world was falling apart. Sometimes it’s hard, beyond difficult to keep faith when you experience so much pain, so much tragedy. Throughout the story, Lena has a complex relationship with God. She has given up hope because she doesn’t have reason to have it, or so she thinks. As Lena grapples with her choices, it is rekindled faith, found in one of the most holy of places, that gives her the foundation needed to carry on. THIS is something that so many can not only identify, but will help those who too are feeling lost and alone, when everything else isn’t enough.

Lena and Nate are soul mates. There is absolutely no doubt. The alternating POVs read like a love letter between the two. The way they both try to have courage, to be strong for each other, to not let the other see how badly they’re hurting when the impending loss is enough to break them and tear out their hearts. Every time Nate looks at Lena, it’s like falling in love all over again. Each day he grows more in love and there’s nothing that can beat that, even death. The love they feel for each other is almost divine, something that is both Kismet and ordained. The glow flows off the pages and will cushion your heart in a cocoon of warmth and happiness.

Take my advice: read the notes, read the acknowledgments. Every piece of this story is heart-felt and an open letter to her readers. Together, it adds a more personal note to the story, one that makes it even more incredible.

From the USA Today Best Selling Author of ‘Truth or Beard’

There are three things you need to know about Fiona Archer… I would tell you what they are, but then I’d have to kill you.

But I can tell you that Fiona’s husband—the always irrepressible and often cantankerous Greg Archer—is desperately in love with his wife. He aches for her when they are apart, and is insatiable when they are together. Yet as the years pass, Greg has begun to suspect that Fiona is a ninja. A ninja mom. A ninja wife. A ninja friend. After fourteen years of marriage, Greg is trying not to panic. Because Fiona’s talent for blending in is starting to resemble fading away.

However, when unexpected events mean Fiona must take center stage to keep her family safe, her response stuns everyone—Greg most of all. It seems like Greg’s wish has come true.

Except… not.

When all is said and done, can Greg handle this new version of his wife? Will his irrepressible cantankerousness push her away? Or can the couple find a way forward without either being forced to step back into the shadows?

This is a full length, 100k word novel, and is the 5th book in the Knitting in the City Series. All books in the series can be read as a standalone except book #1.5

ExcerptI tucked my fingers under her chin and lifted her face to mine, stealing a kiss; true distress clawed at my chest, traveled like a spike down my spine. I didn’t want to guess, or entertain any possibilities. Inevitably, my mind always jumped to the worst possible conclusion whenever I saw her inexplicably sad (i.e. brain tumor).

Even so, I attempted to keep my tone level and calm. “What could be too important for the greeting card aisle? It’s the perfect place to tell me anything and everything. There’s likely a card we can buy afterward for the occasion.”

She huffed a laugh, laughed a bit more, and then began crying again.

Her laughter was a good sign, so I went with it.

“Let’s see . . .” I shuffled us both to the rack and plucked a greeting card from it. “You tell me if this one describes your situation.” I cleared my throat and began to read, “Dear Brother, Many blessings on your fortieth birthday. May your girlfriend bring home that hot girl she works with and suggest a three-way.”

Fiona began laughing in earnest, burying her face against my chest.

I returned the original card, walked us a few steps farther down the aisle, and selected another card at random. “Here’s another. Dear Friend, Thank you for your thoughtfulness. I am so lucky to have you in my life, especially after that time I hit you with my car and salted the earth around your house.

I cracked a smile as I grabbed another card. She was laughing so hard she could barely breathe.

“Dear Co-worker, Get well soon. Sorry about the scorpions in your bed. And the leprosy. And the chlamydia.”

“Stop! I can’t- I can’t breathe.” Fiona gripped the front of my shirt as though she needed my solid frame to remain upright.

I took one more step and picked a new card. “Dear Dad, Happy Father’s Day. I know I’m not your favorite child, but I hope you will . . . you will . . .” I stopped reading because Fiona had stopped laughing.

In fact, she’d grown eerily still, though her fists remained anchored in my shirt. I don’t think she was even breathing.

“Fe?”

She released an audible exhale—as though bracing herself—and titled her head back. New tears shone in her eyes and she looked . . . emotional.

Not sad. Not worried or scared. Just emotional.

And I knew.

“I’m going to be a dad,” I said.

She nodded, her mouth wanting to smile but her eyes betraying the disordered chaos of her thoughts.

I had no idea what she was thinking.

I had no idea what I was thinking.

But I felt like I’d just been punched, slapped across the face. And it felt scary. And good.

I felt like I was the king of the universe, the luckiest man alive.

I felt panic, because I didn’t know how to be a dad, at least not the kind I wanted to be.

I felt a bizarre surge of pride, of accomplishment.

I felt a heady wave of possessiveness, for this woman I loved, for the child we’d made. I felt responsible.

But I did not feel burdened.

And I knew nothing would ever be the same.

SEX! It all started with sex, between my parents. Personally I don’t like thinking about it, but whatever works for you is a-ok with me. No judgment. The sex happened in California and much of my life also occurred in that state until I moved from the land of nuts (almonds), wine, silicon… boobs, and heavy traffic to the southeast US. Like most writers I like to write, but let’s get back to sex. Eventually I married and gave birth to 2 small people-children (boy-6, girl-4 as of this writing).

By day I’m a biomedical researcher with focus on rare diseases. By night I’m a knitter, sewer, lino block carver, fabric printer, soap maker, and general crafter. By the wee hours of the morning or when I’m intoxicated I love to listen to the voices in my head and let them tell me stories. I hope you enjoy their stories.
